Dil dhadakne ka sabab

A human effort of a near-superhuman task: here is my version of this timeless ghazal. After many failed attempts of this song in the past I told myself to be complacent with this version. While on the one hand we feel some songs should be left untouched, the worldly, ambitious egotist in us on the other, wants to see how far we can go...sigh!:)

Song: Dil dhadakne ka sabab yaad aaya
Music: Ghulam Ali
Lyrics: Nasir Kazmi
Singer: Asha Bhonsle

aaha..u have real guts to attempt this and come out reasonably unscathed. mellifluous rendition.

konjam scale kuraichchukko. It will bring out the beauty of your voice. Your sangathis will be clearer too.

I think it is time for some of my ghazal compositions (in tamil) to come in your voice. We will discuss this soon.

You have nice voice and pronunciation of words is fine. However, at some places you try too hard. With practice (riyaaz) these kinks will go away.

Congratulations on this good attempt.

Mohib

PS: Have you listened to Ghulam Ali and Noorjehan's rendition of this Ghazal?

sindhuja, good attempt. There are some places where u loose control like at "oo theri". The sangathis are very hard and could have been more softer, and have to have more flow which does require more practise. And at places of high pitch you do struggle. Think all these have only one solution Practise or riyaaz as mohib has rightly said :-) Flow or easiness is very important in any songs. Your hindi is once again on spot and your voice mellifluous as ever!

waah sindhu this is such a musical treat. your guts to attempt some of the real tough songs are awe-inspiring. keep up the good work..god bless your voice.

very nice brigas! awesome. but it wud help to tone down the singing in places- sing with more "nazaakat", especially at the higher notes. but of course it's easier to critique than to sing something as difficult as this! :)

love the fact that u even tried.

more expression, more feeling, more bhaavam would make it a lot better. and try to reduce the pitch as well...

that was a real tough one....very good performance....have you ever tried singing "Kuhu kuhu Bole koyaliya" from Suvarna Sundari...IMHO it will be a good song to try for a singer of your caliber :)

Murali, Jo, Mugilan,Vidyu, Sudipta, Rajesh, Jenni, Rosh, Priti- Thanks very much for the encouragement.
Mohib, Pradipji and Sumi- sincere thanks to you for pointing out the flaws. True that the ease/ required expression is not there in the singing-and true that riyaz alone will help.

Here after a loong time ....beautiful rendition. You have a very sweet voice ...but just my humble opinion that you were straining a bit hitting those high notes.

Overall an excellent job.

Wandered here through blogbharti.

Wonderful rendition of the ghazal...esp liked the lack of musical instruments and just the human voice and the words...enjoyed it more than the original.

hope to hear more semi-classical ones...

BTW:The lyrics are by Nasir Kazmi.

Thanks once again.
Mohib- I have heard only Ashaji's rendition of this ghazal... Is the version that you've mentioned available anywhere on the web?
Siyaah-Thanks for pointing out that lyrics are by Nasir Kazmi- corrected it on my post.

I am glad I came to your blog page! You have a voice-control that is heavenly. At a high pitch you maintained this difficult ghazal decently. However, there are a few key factors in ghazals (I can only speak for Urdu/Hindi ghazals) and one is presenting the poetry such that it comes alive in front of you! While I loved each and every one of your modulations, I found them clashing with "masti-e-sharab-e-ghazal" (indulgence by the wine of ghazal poetry).

I am no expert in any areas I mentioned above and my opinion is a very subjective one! Regardless, this was an excellent performance!

Khan Sahab- thanks much. Admit there could have been more feel :) Shall work on it.

Sindhuja, a beautiful rendering of a very difficult song. I have seen the comments by others with more technical knowledge of music than I have, but your song was sweet to the ear. I would just comment on the pronunciation of 'yaad'. In this verse, I think 'yaad' would be a better way to say it than 'yaadu'. Try it.
