Please excuse me for any mistakes in the rendition!
Vidapi I think is similar to the Hindustani Raag Bhatiyar in the feel, although the latter includes ga3 and ni3.
Here's an abhang in Bhatiyar by Ranjani-Gayathri: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiT7Hqk_uwg
Priya sisters have also sung a bhajan in this raag, "maare ghar aaoji"...
(I remember a documentary that used to come on Doordarshan years back- on the National Literacy Mission - in the voice of Kavitha Krishnamurthy, and I think that was also Bhatiyar... was a lovely tune and brings back fond memories of the DD days...)
Song: Saarideno
Raga: Vidapi (S R1 M1 P D2 S, S D2 P M1 R1 S)
Thalam: Adi
Lyrics: Sri Vadiraja
Tune: Smt Lalgudi Rajalakshmi

Very beautiful song.. Enjoyed it! trying to recollect a similar song..
that was an excellent rendition of an unfamiliar raga!
Thanks, Ramya and Sumi!
Very very beautiful! It's been a few months since I visited your blog, and am loving the carnatic renditions :)
Keep singing!
Sindhuja: Very nice. Beautifully sung. Haven't heard of this raaga. Some similarity to Revathi?
- Uthra
Thanks Vidya and Uthra.
Uthra, yes, kind of: the S R M P are common to both Vidapi and Revathi. After that, the former takes on D2 where as the latter has N2.
Yes, that documentary "Sooraj ke" was in Bhatiyaar. :-)
Wow..very nice ragam..you know..i raked my brain so hard to remember an Ashtapathi rendered by Balamuralikrishna - its called "Radhika krishna" in a raagam called vasanthi.. I feel Vidapi sounds so familiar to this ragam..but, correct me if I am wrong :)..again..very good rendition
Thanks Karthik- Vidapi and Vasanthi.. hmm.. not that much I feel- just a couple of swaras similar.. :)
Excellent attempt.Vidapi is Vidapi.
hmm..like Vaasanthi because of the same swaras in madhyama scale. You have sung all the songs excellently.

Thanks a lot Mr. Ramakrishnan - I didn't realize Vidapi and Vaasanthi were gruhabhedams! Interesting!
Enchanting Raga in a mesmerising Voice.. You have a blessed voice. Where do you record your alaapana ? at studio?
Hello Sindhuja,
I had really enjoyed listening to this song and had become a big fan of the raaga which had made this song even more soulful. Thanks to you the song composed by great ascetic Sri vadiraja was etched in my memory. Since i lost the local copy i came back looking for the song after 10 years but no longer available here. Could you please repost it and i would be grateful?
